Research Data Management for Social Sciences
This workshop will cover issues in research data management (RDM) related to social sciences disciplines. Attendees in this workshop will participate in practical hands-on exercises to create a data management plan, organize files according to best practices, and apply disciplinary standards for documentation and metadata. Attendees will also learn about options for storing data securely, especially data that contain personally identifiable information (PII) involving human subjects. This workshop will highlight examples of research data management best practices involving the kinds of data that are most commonly collected or analyzed in the social sciences, including: unstructured data (e.g. text data, interview transcripts, oral histories, etc.), quantitative/numerical data (e.g. tabular/spreadsheet data, survey data, etc.), geospatial data, and additional forms of qualitative data. Attendees will have a chance to chat about issues or questions related to their own research data toward the end of the workshop session.
