Dr. Jennifer Lundquist will speak about her work on addressing the digital harassment and trolling of scholars. It will be followed by a question and answer session.

In May of 2021, Dr. Lundquist co-organized an event to discuss the strategies that UMass faculty and administrators may use to prevent and respond to public harassment and to support faculty if and when it occurs (https://www.umass.edu/.../when-public-engagement-comes...). She has worked to develop protocols at UMass Amherst to support scholars who have been trolled and/or digitally harassed.

Dr. Jennifer Lundquist is a professor and Senior Associate Dean of Research and Faculty Development at UMass Amherst. She examines the pathways through which racial, ethnic and gender inequalities are perpetuated and sometimes undone in various institutional settings, such as the workplace, the dating/marriage market and in families.

This event is co-hosted by Dr. Stefanie Duguay (Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Studies at Concordia University and director of the DIGS Lab).

"There is a cost to doing work in public spheres that disproportionately is paid by marginalized scholars. It is not rare for women academics, Indigenous scholars, and scholars of colour to face harassment online." In July 2020, Dr. Alex Ketchum and her lab released the "Report on the State of Resources Provided to Support Scholars Against Harassment, Trolling, and Doxxing While Doing Public Media Work" (https://medium.com/.../report-on-the-state-of-resources...). The report aims to encourage all Canadian (and other) universities’ Media Relations Offices to develop a best practices plan.

This event with Dr. Lunquist seeks to showcase strategies to support scholars engaged in public facing work and encourage other universities to develop a best practices plan.

This event is part of the 3rd Season of the Feminist and Accessible Publishing and Communications Technologies Speaker and Workshop Series (https://www.feministandaccessiblepublishingandtechnology.com), organized by Dr. Alex Ketchum.

Season 3 of our series was made possible thanks to our sponsors: SSHRC (and the Initiative for Digital Citizen Research), the Institute for Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies (IGSF), the DIGS Lab, Milieux, Initiative for Indigenous Futures, MILA, and the McGill Writing Centre.

There is no fee required to attend this event. We will provide captions in english. This event will be recorded and made available on our website after the event: https://www.feministandaccessiblepublishingandtechnology....
