Introduction to Python for data science

Overview

This 5-day workshop is an introductory, short course on using Python for data science. It is designed for anyone who wishes to obtain basic knowledge of programming in python and applying this language to perform data analysis.

The outcomes of this workshop include knowledge of:
     - Programming fundamentals: types, values, control flow and functions
     - Data structures: lists and dictionaries
     - Using libraries: introduction to visualization and data science libraries
     - Putting it all together: creating and training a machine learning algorithm in Python

Prerequisites: None.

Date: Monday to Friday, 15 to 19 August, 2022.
Time: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (with a lunch break from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.).
Location: Burnside Hall room 511 (5th floor), inside the Geographic Information Center.
Instructor: Jacob Errington, Faculty Lecturer, and Eric Mayhew, graduate student, School of Computer Science, McGill University.

This workshop is offered for free by the Faculty of Science to the McGill community. If demand exceeds capacity, we will give preference to graduate students. Registration closes on July 27. We will be in touch by August 1st to let you know if your registration was accepted. REGISTER HERE.
