SUMMARY:Sense\, Nonsense\, and Science with Dr. Joe Schwarcz
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Joe Schwarcz\, Director of the McGill Office for Science
and Society\, joins us for Science Literacy Week 2023!\n\nA little
nonsense\, now and then\, is relished by the best of men. These days\,
however\, we seem to be dealing with more than just a little nonsense. The
Internet is filled with products that promise miraculous cures and magical
weight loss schemes\, health food stores equate “natural” with "safe"
and the dead offer advice to the living through "mediums." Synthetic
substances are looked upon as villains and some cosmetics advertise that
they are “chemical-free.” Only a proper scientific investigation of
these issues can separate sense from nonsense. \n\nTake a look at our
Science Literacy Week calendar to find other great events on campus
 beginning September 18.
