 hours. \n\nVernissage - February 3\, 2026.\n\nGabor Szilasi (1928–) began 
 his work of social-documentarian photography in Hungary before settling in 
 Montreal in 1959. Employed by the Office du film du Québec through the 
 1960s\, he captured rural scenes across the province and turned his lens on 
 his adopted city of Montreal for a personal project\; to map an urban 
 landscape in a state of flux. From the 1960s onward\, his work was widely 
 exhibited and collected\, and he later taught photography at Cégep du 
 Vieux Montréal and Concordia University\, helping shape generations of 
 Quebec photographers.  \n\nIrregular intersections\, leftover spaces\, 
 mismatched materials\, geometric tensions and overlapping signage are all 
 examples of hinge points in a city’s built environment. These sites 
 embody growth through adaptation and compromise between old and new. 
 Montreal is shaped by hinge points and Szilasi has documented them for us. 
 In this exhibition of photographic prints from the late 1970s and early 
 1980s\, we invite you to see our city from Szilasi’s angle.\n\nCurators:

 a commencé son travail de photographe social et documentaire en Hongrie\, 
 avant de s’installer à Montréal en 1959. Au service de l’Office du 
 film du Québec dans les années 1960\, il a capturé des scènes rurales 
 dans toute la province avant de tourner son objectif vers sa ville 
 d’adoption\, Montréal\, pour un projet personnel : cartographier un 
 paysage urbain en pleine mutation. À partir des années 1960\, son travail 
 fait l’objet de nombreuses expositions. Il a ensuite enseigné la 
 photographie au Cégep du Vieux Montréal et à l’Université Concordia\, 
 et formé ainsi des générations de photographes québécois.\n\nLes 
 intersections irrégulières\, les espaces inutilisés\, les matériaux 
 dépareillés\, les tensions géométriques et les panneaux de 
 signalisation qui se chevauchent sont autant d’exemples de points 
 d’articulation dans l’environnement bâti d’une ville. Ces éléments 
 visuels incarnent la croissance par l’adaptation\, et le compromis entre 
 l’ancien et le nouveau. Montréal est façonnée par ces négociations\, 
 et Gabor Szilasi a largement documenté ces points d’articulation dans 
 les années 1960. Une exposition d’épreuves photographiques de la fin 
 des années 1970 et du début des années 1980 vous invite à découvrir
